Frequently Asked Questions

What reel should I get?

Select the type of fishing you will use it for (on the home page) as a starting point. For more guidance, send us following info and we can get back to you with recommendations:

  • What type of fishing you will be using it for.
  • How deep you will be fishing (or how much line you think you need).
  • What size and type of line you want to use.
  • What your approximate budget is.

What shipping do you use?

We use the main courier companies in NZ and can provide tracking numbers on request. For reels, shipping is typically between $15 and $25 (urban and rural addresses)

Are the reels for sale the ones in the photos?

Photos are indicative only. The actual reels in stock often vary from the photos. We can send you a photo of your reel prior to payment on request.

What are the reel "grades"?

We grade the reels based on their condition (inside and out):

  • A - Mint Condition
  • B - Good Used condition
  • C - Rough but working condition
Reel prices are based on the condition of the reel. The price of a reel will change depending on what grade you select. The default grade is "Grade B" as this is what we most commonly sell.

Do all the reels come with line on them?

Sometimes reels will have used line on them that comes free with the reel. All used line is considered "as is", and its performance is not garaunteed. If you need to know what is on the reel we have for you in stock please ask. We also stock new braid (60lb and 80lb) and can spool the reel with new braid before we send them out. You can either purchase braid through our online store, or request it via email after your reel purchase.

What power supply/battery do you recommend?

  • For small to medium reels, a small 12V SLA battery is our default recommendation. A 7 Amp-hour battery weighs about 2.5kg, and costs under $50 new. For most people, these batteries will last an entire fishing session.
  • For larger reels, we recommend larger 12V batteries with approximately 20 Amp-hours capacity. If you have a large reel, but wont be using it much (common with drone an kite fishers who just wind one or two sets in per trip) then a small battery should be fine.
  • For those looking at light weight options, there are also 12V lithium batteries available now. They are about 2-3 times lighter than standard SLA batteris, but cost 2-3 times more, and require more expensive battery chargers to charge them.

What if I find the reel is not what I need (after purchasing)?

Often we will exchange the reels for a different one (at our discretion) provided it is in the same condition as you recieved it, and you contact us in a reasonable time frame after purchasing.

What kind of warranty do you provide with the reels?

For all used reels, we provide a 3 month warranty unless stated otherwise in the product description. New products (cords, bearings etc.) have a 12 month warranty.
